New 9600 gso needs 12 volt current rating of 26 amps

My new asus 9600 gso says it needs a 12 volt current rating of 26 amps (400 watt min. power pupply). My new Apevia psu is 500 watts, and lists 2- 12 volt currents at 16 amps and 18 amps. Maybe a dumb question, but should that be sufficent to run the card?

Just think about it for a moment: would a midrange card really pull 312W? ;)

The rating on the box is what they expect is required for the entire system. If you have your 9600GSO in with an overclocked Core i7 then you might want to aim higher than 26A. What is the model for your PSU? Hopefully Newegg sells it so I can see a picture of the label.

Its only 26 amps. The site says 3.3, and +5V combined is 160W. BUT then they say +3.3V, 5V and 12V rails all combined is 480W, if you take the 160W away, then you got 320 / 12 is 26A. I think this calculation is right lol. I wouldn't expect more from a $40.00 PSU made by a case manufacturer

It's really impossible to say without testing it until the overcurrent protection (which it hopefully has) trips. I doubt it has much more than 24A though (combined +12V). This isn't an issue as long as your system isn't power hungry. Speaking of which, what are the rest of your system specs?

A 9600GSO by itself pulls about 4 amps. Unless, like randomizer said, you have a totally unbalanced system with an i7 and basket full of drives, the 400 watt PSU will power your system easily.

More worrisome is the quality of the PSU.

Got it in there, works fine. NOW, though, the fan on the gpu will not spin at all. The heatsink is pretty hot. Now, rivatuner will not allow me to adjust the fan speed. It doesn't even register a temp (0 degrees celcius). What do I do now?

Core 2 Duo 4300, 1 SATA HD, 1 DVD- RW Drive, 3 Gigs DDR2 Ram (4 sticks). OK, I've got both in there working now, but the fan will not spin on the GPU. Rivatuner does not display a temp for the card, nor will it allow me to adjust fan speed at all. I've downloaded the latest drivers, but nothing. What would you try next? That heatsink is preeeety hot. Thanks
