The computer shut down without warning, and would not turn back on. I checked all of the connections (fine) however the only evidence of power when turning on the front power switch was a brief flash of the DVD light. I noted that the inside of the case was hot (apparently the kids had left it on for days on end). I replaced the generic 400W power supply with a 500W unit.
When I turn on the power supply power, the CPU and video card fans both twitch. When I turn on the power at the power switch on the front of the machine, they sometimes also twitch, but no other evidence of power is present.
I tried disconnecting each of the peripherals in orderto see if something was causing a drain, but nothing made any difference.
You definitely do not want power connected when clearing the CMOS! It usually involves moving a jumper -- the procedure for your specific MB will be described in the MB manual.
