Is it possible to purchase a sat tv system from Dish or Direct TV and use it
in two different locations? That is, one contract with two dishes and
receivers in two locations. I would only use it in one location at a time.
Or would I need to have two contracts and pay twice?
Thank you in advance for any help.

what you could do is get a contract for one location with a 2 receiver
setup, purchase a second dish on ebay and set it up at your camper, take one
of the receivers from your home and hook it up to the second dish. The key
factor is having the receivers activated. once that is in effect, you should
be able to get reception at your camper. the only problem you might have is
if the camper is in another zipcode that is not programmed into the receiver
but I'm not sure if that would be a problem or not.
I have heard of neighbors doing this. one would order the dish, the other
would buy a used dish, hook up the receivers on each dish and split the
bill.

Why two receivers? If you're only going to use one at a time, why not
just get one, and put it in the camper when you're packing? That way,
the card in the receiver is activated, and you're getting what you paid
for. Hell, this might not even be illegal...

With both DirecTV and DishNetwork, I purchased a system to use at home and
in my RV on a single account. This was the understanding up front when I
purchased the receivers: one would be going in the motorhome and two would
go in my home. I've had no issues with it. In fact, with Dish, I got the
distant networks on all of my receivers when I filed the RV waiver. I was a
little worried when I switched from Dish to DirecTV because I understood
that they were more strict about RVs but I received an e-mail response from
them telling me that I could do what I wanted but I would not be able to get
PPV on the RV receiver.

Yes but can you not use a Cell phone to get the PPV's in the RV? Will
this not work with a cell phone. You must surely be able to get a
dialtone generator and dial out the PPV requests on the cell
correct????I am verry curious as I am contemplating the same
venture........thankx all.......

You can order ppv by calling Dish direct. They will activate it and
add it to your bill. No need for the receiver to report back then.

Here is what Directv says about multiple locations......
Dear Eric,
Thanks for writing. You can activate services at multiple locations. If
you want to activate services at both addresses at the same time, then
you need to set up separate accounts for both the locations. You will
have to pay full package price for each account. However, if you only
want service at one residence at a time, we can add both locations to
one account, you'll just need to let us know which location you'd like
the programming to be activated at a specific time. This way you would
only have to pay to keep one system active at a time. For more
information please call us at 1-800-531-5000, and one of our
Entertainment Consultants would be able to assist you.

you could activate service at one location, buy a used dish on ebay and hook
it up at location 2, bring the receiver with you to the location you want at
any given time, and wouldn't need to activate a second account.

What I have done is picked up a Dish Network dish from the neighbors
house when they switched to cable and purchased a tripod mount for it
from Camping World. When I go camping I take one of the receivers out
of the house and put it in the camper. I live in California and drove
back to Kentucky and still received most of my local channels. Channel
9 didn't work because it uses a spot beam and I was out of that area.
In Yosemite last year I could get channel 9 just about everyother day.
Just be sure to run the check switch program in the setup menu of your
receiver when you switch dishes.
