Ok so I am doing some research to get a new monitor. I am looking at spending around $300ish for a 24 inch monitor. (can be bigger) I have come across some an issue. Some monitors have a Glossy screen and some have matte screens. Does anyone know if there is any advantage to having a glossy screen over a matte one. I am not talking about the cabinet but the screen itself. Also does anyone have any ideas on a good monitor in that price range give or take $50 and a couple of inches? Right now i am looking at this monitor.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001309 But it doesnt have a glossy screen its only matte.
Thanks guys any suggestions would be appreciated
I'd stay away from the glossy screen where ever possible. My freind bought a laptop with a glossy screen even though I recommended against it. He was soon complaining about the reflections depending on the lighting situation.
Glossy screens look real slick in a well lit computer shop looking straight on. But you get a room with a lamp behind you or sun shining in at an angle and the reflections can become really annoying. In some lighting situations it almost becomes like a mirror and you can see your own reflection while your trying to concentrate on the content of the screen.
This is just my own oppinion based on personal experience. Perhaps others may be able to present some pro's with regards to glossy screens but I think they're just astectically pleasing at first then become more annoying as you use them. I'd go with matte every time; less succeptable to reflections and better picture quality when viewed from an angle.
I'm not really much of a monitor kind of guy any more. Once you experience a large flat screen TV with bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse you'll throw out your computer desk and never use a small monitor again.
I just bought a JVC 37" flat screen tv. It's discontinued and out of date so it was only about $550. Believe or not I bought it because of it's looks and shape. My entertainment centre can only fit a certain size so I needed a screen with the least amount of crap surrounding it. This one fit the bill because it doesn't have speakers hanging of the side (I use my stereo anyway) and the frame is thin.
The picture is absolutely beautiful and that's on my old antique tower. I still haven't completed my HTPC yet. I can hardly wait to see what that looks like when it's done
