My friend has a d975xbx2 motherboard from Intel, who says it's crossfire capable. If it was me I'd try the dual 9800 GTX but I don't want him to sink money into it and find out it doesn't work. If anyone has a link or knows for sure that it does work can you let me know?

Assume he's got the right power supply etc. I just need to make sure the board can handle it. Thanks

Probably not. I think it use to be, but then there was a whole driver mess so I'm pretty sure that nVidia drivers will not recognize it as SLI capable. You could always used hacked drivers to accomplish it, but that's kind of a pain and all :D.

If it's made by intel and not an AIB, then check the Intel website to be sure.
