Ethernet Grounding?

I recently assembled a new system with the Gigabyte UD3P.
When I was installing it, I left the grounding arms on the i/o shield flipped up, as I didn't want to short the motherboard. I have been using wireless, but am thinking about connecting it to ethernet cable. Should the grounding arms on the i/o shield be touching the top of the ethernet ports on the inside? If they are not, will it kill my motherboard? If they are, is that bad?

Shouldnt be an issue if Im reading you correctly. They do that to ground the ethernet to the case.

So yes, i should touch the grounding pin to the motherboard? or no, I shouldnt?

If you talking about the 2 little prongs on the shield, those need to be in contact with the metal part of the port.
