hey i have brand new i7 940 and i just find out that the cores reach to 72c when at load in 3dmark06 and when i play gta4 i use SIW to monitor my temp after the 3dmark or gta finish when i cheke the temp its shows about 53c (highest of the cores)
so is it ok or maybe i have folty CPU or its just SIW glitch somewere in the temp procce while the 3d or gta4 work?

by the way i use kingstone 1800 mhz on xmp mode which i choose from the MOBO (UD4P) can it be the cause???

^ agreed tho may not be 'normal' it is not 'bad'. you have to realize that you have a QUAD core. theoretically, it outputs twice as much heat as a dual core. those programs you are using are very stressful to the CPU as well, performing millions of calculations. the combination of 4 processors pumping out lots of data at once will equal lots of heat. you either need a new cooler or deal with it but in all honesty CPUS will last long after any of your other parts so you should be ok.

looks little warm for no OC, might try putting better thermal compound like artic silver 5 or mx2 on it, these chips are made to super OC easily, might want check into an aftermarket cooler as well.... get the most benefit out of it

i have aftermarket cooler the ‏V1 AX 110mm Blue Led CPU CL-P0508‎ this was the strongest one they have at the time i wanted ‏Mugen II 5 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler
do you have any idea what cooler i can get that fully fits lga1366

go to the bios and set the vcore to 1.2. I know even my 920 was running warm with stock speed and everything on auto. Setting this to 1.2 (which is stock) brought the temps into check.

i will try to do what u say but are u shoure it will be stable and i have the 940 you sad that u have the 920

They are the same, the 940 just has a higher multiplier. If you are running stock that is the stock temp. You can test the stability with OCCT 3.0.1 if you like. Just make sure you check the Hyperthreading box with running a custom test. Run that for an hour, if it passes you are set. But 1.2 should be fine at stock speed, and it's usually good for an OC as well.

It may not lower your temps but I know my AUTO setting ran hotter than manually setting the default voltage.
