I live with two other people who also use the wireless. Having done a speed test I found that we run at about a 8.21 mb/s and my upload speed is about .54 mb/s. This is with all three people being on the internet. I am running the wireless through a Netgear WGR 614 v7 and there is an Xbox 360 plugged into one of the ports on the NetGear. Now with all that said, my internet consistently drops pages. Is there anything you can help me with or suggest that we do that DOES NOT cost a lot of money

Optimise wireless reception by experimenting with channels -- some may work better in your physical environment than others.

Also be aware of neighbouring wifi and try to choose a channel 5 stops from the strongest neighbour.

Raise the router above furniture level. Relocate cordless phone base or video sender away from router.
