External raid 1 drive, PSU failed, how to recover data

Hello,

I have a external Western Digital hard drive which has 2 x 1tb hard disks in it's enclosure. I have them configured as raid 1 mirror. The drive has been pretty good but unfortunately the PSU has died on this device.

In order to recover the data can I remove one of the hard drives from the enclosure, connect it to an internal SATA port in my computer and read the data from the drive? Has anyone tried this?

Thanks for you help

  1. Should work, don't see why it wouldn't. Make sure your boot order doesn't change when you add it.
  2. and mind the file system used.

some HDD enclosure like NAS may not using NTFS and FAT32. so if you plug in your drive and no data, don't panic.
