Hi
I am building a system for my parents. It is a micro-atx system with no stand alone video card. The case comes with a 585 Watt power supply and I would like to know if a 200 Watt, 400VA UPS will be work?? Are they supposed to have the same watts? Does it matter?? All I need is something to keep the system on for long enough so my parents can shut it down in case of a power surge or power outage. Thanks for your help!

What's more important is what is the 585W PSU powering? If it's a system that requires 300W, then no problem. What's in their system and what display are they using? If total power is less than 400W, then you're fine, but I would automate the power down instead of leaving it up to them. They might not be in front of the computer when a power failure occurs.

Not sure how much power is required. Here are the specs
CPU: Core2 Duo Intel e6600 @2.4 GHZ
GPU: On-board
SOUND: On-board
MEMORY: 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800 by G.Skill
PS: 585 Watt
HDD: SSD 32 GB by Kingston
+ keyboard, mouse, 2.1 speakers
Anything else you need?

It won't run for long. Configure it to shutdown after 1 minute of power outage. I presume they have an LCD and not a CRT monitor because it definitely isn't powerful enough for the system and a CRT monitor.

If they have a crt monitor, you definitely need to configure the system for automatic shutdown, and do not plug the monitor into the UPS.

If you configure for auto shutdown, it will not matter if you cannot see what is going on as the system saves and shuts down.
