DVDRW faulty or controller?

Last response: in Storage

I have PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-115D and have been having some problems for a while now. Now I'm not sure if the DVD drive is faulty or if my IDE controller is failing.

Whenever I try and Burn a dvd, it fails. These are the errors I get in windows event viewer.

Quote:
The device, \Device\CdRom1, has a bad block.

and sometimes this

Quote:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort

I have tried a few things like, removed my other CDRW drive and tried DVDRW on CS but still the same. If it burns a disk, it is corrupted.

I have the nero burn log and wondered if there was anything to say the drive is dying?

Well i don't know what the problem was but for some strange reason, it's started to burn again.

Should be ok for now but will be back if it plays up again.

It wouldn't surprise me if it were the nvidia chipset I have on my motherboard. Nvidia chipsets are crap and nothing but problems.

My next motherboard will be intel chipset all the way. :)
