Forum Motherboards & Memory : Memory HP Pavillion DV5000 Ram Upgrade Error

Went from a 2x 512 mb setup in my HP Pavillion DV5235EA that worked perfectly to a non-working 2x 1gb setup. The video memory is shared and no graphics display and the system does not boot.

To make matters worse the old setup doesn't work either now. I removed and replaced the CMOS battery for both setups. The new setup beeps on startup in the style 1-3-4-3 which according to this site (http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm) means to "Test 512K base memory"

The old setup beeps in the style 1-4-1-1 which is no identified on the site.

When using either a 512mb or a 1gb stick of ram in one slot, the system emits 3 beeps (base 64K RAM failure) and using either sitck in the other slot the system does not beep but still nothing happens.

Why has this broken and do I need a new mobo?

Unless you try the memory sticks somewhere else, I can only assume that you're a victim of coincidence:

  • Your old 512MBs failed after you put them back in
  • Your new 1GBs are faulty
  • Your motherboard failed while you were switching RAM

In any case, you should try getting a new mobo. Are you under warranty? What does HP have to say?
