Crossfire/SLI or single card upgrade

hey i was wondering if crossfire/SLI if better than just upgrading a single graphic card.
i currently have the 4870 512mb (my motherboard does not support crossfire or sli )

would you guys recommend getting a new motherboard and then crossfiring? or should i just stay with my current motherboard and save up for a really good graphic card not yet released. im sure my power supply can handle any single card that will come out :P

More about crossfire single card upgrade
  1. It depends on the game and resolution that u play, read the FAQ,it may help u
  2. well seeing as you already have a very good GPU your only option is to crossfire. (unless you waste alot of money getting a 4870 X2 or nvidia 295)
  3. I would upgrade to a Crossfire motherboard, and run 2 4870 X2's in quad Crossfire. Yep, that is exactly what I would do if I were you.
  4. oh yeah. and i play at 1680x1050
for games id have to say... starcraft 2 when its out, counter strike source, and this new game um the last remnant
  5. HD 4870 is enough for that res,do u have any problems with it ?
  6. I have
    *G.Skill 4gb ddr2 800 @954mhz
    *Vista 64bit
    *Intel Core2Quad q6600 @ 3.6ghz

    I'm waiting for a 5xxx or 3xxx ati/nvidia cards to come out.
  7. haha yes my graphic card runs pretty good right now but im just wonderin if i "HAD" to upgrade what it would be
  8. Upgrade something when u really dont get the performance u need from it.
For now HD 4870 is pretty good and u are happy with it too, when it started to struglle in games or other things that u need, then that would be a good time for upgrading :)
  9. Your right, i think il just wait till i really Need an upgrade =D
