* First question is, Is the power supply i have chosen big enough to run this system ?
* Second, does this power supply offer the feature of distribution when one item/s (such as video card) need more power they will receive it?
* Third any suggestions about this system or things i might wanna change?
* Do I need ddr3 graphics cards to run this system or will ddr2 work ? what will be the difference ?
* Is this a fair price for everything ? $1,486.79
And if people are about to post why on earth do you need 6gb of video ram, and 12 gb of ram , an i7 with a 1250 w power
supply ... Well the answer is simple I am Also purchasing a 46 Vizio LCD HDTV to use as my monitor . I do high graphics
gaming, hd video editing, production , after effects/ cs3 master collection, and many more ram hogging programs. I will be
running Vista Ultimate 64 bit to support all the ram. Grand total price is gunna be $1,486.79 from www.newegg.com
i for got to mention i got a 3 sli mother board be cause i couldnt find one that took 4 sli
Hi
You cannot 3 way SLI with 9600 GT cards. 3 way Sli requires GTX or Ultra cards in order to do so.
ok thanks for letting me know ... are there any other reasonably priced 2 gb sli card you might recommend
tavernarijared wrote : i for got to mention i got a 3 sli mother board be cause i couldnt find one that took 4 sli
3 way sli with 9600gt's is a big waste of money. For that amount, I'd get a GTX 275 or 4890.
The PSU you picked out is overkill. 850 watts is what I'd generally suggest for two high-end cards in SLI/crossfire (except any "x2" cards)
You may want to wait for more opinions before you hit the "buy" button.
tavernarijared wrote : ok thanks for letting me know ... are there any other reasonably priced 2 gb sli card you might recommend
Is there any reason why your leaning towards SLI?
yeah i wanna throw 3 matched cards ... another guy said i wasnt able to do tri sli with this card ... sparkle told me i need 650w for one 850w for 2 so i am assuming 1050w for 3
well cause i am using that 2 of the exact cards sli right now and there amazingly good
1100 to 1200W would be ideal for 3-way Sli, you can never have too much power and it leaves you headroom for upgrades.
tavernarijared wrote : well cause i am using that 2 of the exact cards sli right now and there amazingly good
To be blunt, the GTX 275 or 4890 will easily outperform the 2x 9600GT's. But as you already own the card, you might as well stick with them
.
exactly what i was thinking and for the price of it i figured i should just get 1250 w
no i am selling the system i have now which has these two card in them ... but i am looking for a cost efficient 2 gb card so that i can purchase 3
tavernarijared wrote : no i am selling the system i have now which has these two card in them ... but i am looking for a cost efficient 2 gb card so that i can purchase 3
Sorry, I don't quite understand this statement. Are you looking for a video card with 2GB memory on it?
yes or even 2 (4gb) graphics cards i saw them on dells website
tavernarijared wrote : yes or even 2 (4gb) graphics cards i saw them on dells website
Is that amount of VRAM needed? I am unfamiliar of the other programs that you use, but I'm certain that gaming doesn't require that much VRAM, even at the highest resolutions.
I still stand by my first statement, which is a GTX 275 or 4890 will perform a lot better than the 2x 9600GT's. To put it in comparison, two 9600GT's perform slightly worse compared to an 8800GTS/9800GTX. Two 8800GTS/9800GTX's will perform slightly better than a single GTX 275 or 4890, depending on the resolution.
Also, keep in mind, VRAM memory doesn't "stack", as in, two 2 GB 9600GT's in SLI won't act as a single 4GB card, they will both address their own 2Gb's of memory.

That 46 Vizio LCD HDTV has a max resolution of 1920x1080 - the same resolution as many 22" 1080P monitors.
The 46"HDTV needs less video processing power than the average 24" 1920x1200 monitor.
Unless you step up to a 2560x1600 resolution monitor there is no reason to think you need more than 1GB Vram. And at 2560x1600 resolution SLI 9600 are a very bad choice.
Considering how much you're spending on the other components SLI 9600GT are a bad choice for gaming at 1920x1080.

+1
2GB of DDR2 VRAM @ 800 MHz memory clock doesnt impress me much - not when there are video cards out there with 1GB of DDR5 VRAM and more than triple the effective memory clock rate.
For comparison: [Peak memory bandwidth (GB/s)] - [Peak shader arithmetic (GFLOPS)]
9600GT [62.2] - [237]
GTX 275 [127.0] - [674]
HD 4890 [124.8] - [1360]
but the price drastically increases
Since you can't use 3 x 9600GT in SLI - for the ~$280 and $279 PSU in your budget you can get:
2x XFX GTX 260 Core Edition Core 216 @ $180 and CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W $150
And you'd have the option to add a 3rd GTX 260 in a future upgrade. The 850W PSU will handle that easily.
for a performance comparison - look at the 9800GTX+ SLI (higher performing than your SLI 9600GT) and compare that to GTX 260 SLI.
EVGA 02G-P3-1185-AR GeForce GTX 285 2GB 512-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail was the only 2 gb card list in this category and its $409.00 compared to the sparkle 2 gb for $99.00 on newegg.com this is why i am probably going with the sparkle or a more low budget card

I may have missed something here, but is 2GB of memory absolutely needed?
well if i am gunna go all out with 12gb of ram i am gunna throw 2 x2gb ( 4gb ) or 3 x 2gb ( 6gb ) of video ram .... i am trying to build a super computer
tavernarijared wrote : well if i am gunna go all out with 12gb of ram i am gunna throw 2 x2gb ( 4gb ) or 3 x 2gb ( 6gb ) of video ram .... i am trying to build a super computer
How do you figure 12GB is going "all out"?
There is NO linkage between RAM and VRAM. And you're confusing video ram with video processing power. You want the most video processing power you can afford - not the most video RAM you can afford.
Ok
All out - for your budget.
After reading through this thread, it seems like the TC is being stubborn. Why are you ignoring the fact that more VRAM doesn't benefit you if you are using a DDR2 card rather than DDR3 or DDR5.
Maybe triple SLI sounds cool, but newer cards can outperform those with ease, as per the chart that was posted.
tavernarijared wrote : sparkle told me i need 650w for one 850w for 2 so i am assuming 1050w for 3
You must have confused the people at Sparkle about which part you were talking about. For 2 9600GT's and the rest of your parts a good 550W PSU is more than enough for your entire system. The actual power consumption for the entire system will be under 350W.
if you really need a super computer try this (and yes, crossfire will work on this rig)

though, i doubt you have that kind of money

That looks like a system someone threw together in 5 mins. I strongly suggest that you refrain from suggesting such a system again, or at least put more thought into your choices.
well i wanted to go sli simply because it made the whole system cheaper ... i will put together a wish lish with some changes from my first setup and let me know what you think
that mobo is what i am getting i will go crossfire for that
ok i want a server mobo with spots for (multi cpu) 2 core to quads , ddr3 1333 fontside bus , and crossifre or sli ... the other one was out of my budget i have about $ 1,500 to build this
tavernarijared wrote : well i wanted to go sli simply because it made the whole system cheaper ... i will put together a wish lish with some changes from my first setup and let me know what you think
Many previous posters have shown that 3 SLI'ed 9600GTs will not exceed a GTX 275 or 4890 in performance. The extra VRAM you wanted will not help either, even in the most extreme resolutions.

I have no idea what your trying to say/achieve here. Do you want a supercomputer? Or do you want something that will run your programs with relative ease?
run my programs with no problems i think i want ... multi cpu support ... crossfire / sli .. and i want to be able to run 12 to 32 gb of ram .... this is why i am asking everyone so i can get an i dea of what to buy with in my budget ... i have $ 1,500 to spend .. orginally was going for that setup then saw the sever mobo setups and now i am not sure
ok
1. can i get a reg board with 3 sli 9600 series card ?
2. i am either going with the i 7 or dual cpu
3. i would like to go with 1333 ddr3 ram
4. i want a board that has lots of ram slots to allow me to put alot of ram . that first setup that i had allowed me to do so
i basically wanna build a pc that will be up to date with all new technology ... i want to have the max i can get for my money .... if some other posters could put together so list on new egg with a 1,500 price range that would be much appreciated
(1) No. For Tri-SLI you need video cards with 2 SLI connectors.
Top image has 2 SLI connectors (GTX 260) botton image has 1 SLI connector (9600GT)
(2) Your choices are Core i7 quad core, AM2+/AM3 quad core, Core 2 quad core, AM2+/AM3 tri core, AM2+ or Core 2 Duo CPUs.
(3) Your MB choices are X-58, AM3 and P-45/X-48 that support DDR3.
(4) The MSI X58 Platinum SLI choice? Max 12GB DDR3 (or 24GB DDR3 if you want to spring for two 12GB DDR3 kits
It looks like your best bet for Tri-SLI in your budget range with newer technology:
Three GeForce GTS 250 1GB @ $145 ea
or three GeForce GTS 250 512MB @ $120 ea
thanks for the info so i can put use two cards sli with that board and go with the i7 with 12gb of ram thanks my questions have all been answered thanks so much on the assistance for my purchase
