I am reading the posts on the msconfig editing and
wondering if this is what I need to do to take out the
program icon from the right side tray. In windows it is
called the "system tray" not sure what it is called in XP!
I need to take out several program that have put icons in
that area on XP can someone tell me how to do that?
Thanks from a newbee to XP

if an icon is in the system tray the corrisponding
application has either been started by you or automaticly
been started on system start... the quick way to get rid
of them is to right click the icon and exit or stop the
app... the permanent solution is... click start\run and
type msconfig and click ok... click the startup tab and
uncheck the applications you do not want started on boot
or login... i uncheck everything but my firewall and anti-
virus (anything xp has to load to work correctly will be
added back to the startup file by the os)... WARNING!!!!!
unless you know what you are doing do not alter any of
the contents under any other tab... when you exit
msconfig it will ask you to reboot... go ahead and do
it... after you login you will get a notice that your
configuration file have been altered, this is normal...
unless you check do not show this again you will see this
after every login... good luck
