Hey everyone, I recently built my computer
x58a-ud3r
XFX 5870
corsair xms3 6gb
i7 930
I run real temp everyday to check my settings and thermal paste. It's not calibrated but the temps, on full load, never pass 53
I need help on overclocking to a stable 3.2+

I posted this in another thread...but I recommend you read a guide...they eplain best and usuallu clear up almost all of the confusion...here's a couple...
they are lengthy but totally worth reading so you understand the concept fully...
these guides should work for both 1156 and 1336 cpus as the basic design and concept of the i7 is the same...

3.2 should be a piece of cake to OC, even with stock cooler fan. I have same processor and OC'd to 4.01Ghz @ 1.24v. (All power-saving options enabled) I have same ram as you also... u got the 6 GB triple channels XMS ram right?

1) what type of cooling system are u utilizing?
2) What PSU are u using? If youre unable to get a 3.4 OC, sounds like it MIGHT possibly be a power issue..

For a quick, easy OC, just set multi to 20, and Bclk to 200. (I am using XMP profile, which auto sets ram timings @ 9-9-9-24, maxing it out @1600Mhz) That will give u 4.0GHz. Set vcore at 1.248, possibly 1.25. Enable LLC/Vdroop. Report back and tell what ur temps r @. I idle @ 39C, max temps are around 80-85C, well within the 100C Intel-specified limit. Im using Corsair H50 cooler w/ AS5 TIM.
