try more thermal paste. Arctic cooler is the best I think. Post back with results.

Thks for the quik reply..

I used the heatsink+fan which came with the quad...i want to change that with a thermaltake v1 ax....+ the artic paste.. :)

is there any better cooler than the V1 ax,,>>???

I have heard nothing but good reviews and saw a lot of good test results with the ZALMAN CNPS 9500 and the ZALMAN CNPS 9700. 10-15c colder than stock or more.

If you are using the stock cooler, get a better one. the 2nd generation C2 heatsinks are about half the size of the 1st gen heatsinks.

I have a Q9550 OC'd to 3.6 Ghz. I am using a ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme in an Antec 900 case and my loaded temps are 61 C - 65 C.

If it will fit, an excellent choice for an HSF is the Xigmatek HDT S-1283V. If you decide to get one of these, be sure to get the retention bracket.

For the likes of the xigmatek you need to make sure nothing around the cpu is over 3cm high, if it is it will obstruct the heatsink.

Oh, almost forgot. The most popular Arctic Silver thermal compound is the original AS-5. It's teeny, tiny (note the precise technical language) particles of silver suspended in the thermal goop (more technical language). Works well. It's supposed to require about 200 hours (about a week) of on-off cycles to fully "cure". Honestly, I have never noticed any difference in CPU temperatures.

They also make something called "Ceramique". It's not supposed to need curing. I have tried this stuff also. I have noticed no real difference in temperatures.

AC also sells a thermal compound remover. Many of us use isopropyl alcohol and a piece of a paper coffee filter. Make sure that the alcohol does not contain lanolin. That will leave a film.
