When trying to play an mp3 file from a storage card, half
way through the song WMP freezes and notes an error
message "WMP Cannot play this file".

Any thoughts on a remedy?

re-encode the file from the original if possible, use a fixed bitrate.

Have you tried that same file on your desktop to see if it plays on your PC?

You could also try using a different mp3 player (there's a few- winamPAQ for
example, there are others), or re-encode the file you have.
