UPS for 500watt PS

I was wondering what size UPS I should use for my computer. I am running an Antec Earthwatts 500W PS and I just got for free an OMNI Tripp Lite (model number: OMNI SMART675) but it needs new batteries. I was wondering if it would power my system and if it would be worth buying the batteries for it?

It will be powerful enough and your system certainly draws less power than the PSU is rated for. It should keep it powered on for at least 5-10 minutes.

The batteries will probably cost as much as a newer unit that will give you the same performance.

You size a UPS against the actual power draw of your PC - not the size of the PSU.
That 675VA UPS will probably support somewhere around 350~375 watts draw from the PC.

A replacement battery pack will run you about $40 plus shipping.

Read the notes carefully before ordering a battery pack.

A new equivalent UPS will run you about $85 plus shipping

Assuming you have an average LCD monitor also plugged in (and not a CRT)

That Opti-UPS is getting pretty bad customer reviews @ Newegg. I'd avoid that one and go for the APC UPS.
