resolution system setup and use of system.

4870 X2 quad, absolutely not. I wouldn't recommend that even for high resolution users. Stay away from quad setups, they don't yield their price.

Yeah c'mon i'm waiting in anticipation. Personally i'd go for the 2x 285, at the end of the day what game is gonna need more than that. Also if you can accomodate 3 x 4870 it leaves you with 1 spare PCiE. Go for it.

Now I'm jealous!!!!!!!

A single GTX295 will play anything well. You pay a bunch for decreasing returns in performance after that. Possibly more might be useful if you have a 2560x1600 monitor. Then , the sli gtx285 might be in order.

Today, the only really good SSD for the OS is the intel X25-M or E. The others suffer from big problems when writing.
If you can't afford that, I suggest a velociraptor, or possibly a 1tb wd caviar black for just the os, and plan on using only the fastest 10% of the drive..

Looks reasonable to me. But:

I would get vista home premium 64 bit instead.
Why invest in xp which is no longer being developed?

Is there any compelling feature on the workstation version that you need? The basic P6T version would seem to be very good at a lower price.

Go for a good 30" monitor.

---good luck---

once again working from my phone here

I just need an OS that will recognize all my equipment, I'm really happy with the windows 7 beta and plan on upgradeing as soon as it is released

edit: change of plans, looks like i will do vista home premium 64bit after all

1 GTX295. enjoy.

Depending on how much you can find the cards for, the 285 GTX can be found for around 320$ after MIR if you look hard enough, and the 295 GTX is still around 600$, soo really both cards perform well at that resolution.

The 285 GTX overclocks higher, and has higher bus width and Vram, that might benefit ppl in the future. Also the 4870 X2 should do wat you want and it falls between the 285 GTX and 295 GTX for performance and price.

i think i will go with the GTX 295 because i can find if for around $509 and it open up room in my budget (for what i'm not sure)

one last thought however, what if i ran a 4870x2 and a 4870 in tri sli?

Reply to jjbtexas

Funny how no one has mentioned you CAN't use 3x 4870's, unless you CF a 4870X2 with a 4870 (and I strongly recommend using the 1GB version if you do this)

Buy one EVGA GTX 285, if you like it, you can buy another in a few months when (if) the price drops a bit. If you don't, you have 90 days to use EVGA's Step Up program to upgrade it to a GTX 295. Nice specs BTW, whichever card you decide on, that thing's going to haul ass. The P6T6 is a sweet piece of hardware.

I'd recommend going with the gtx 295 or two gtx 285's.
