I've copied a DJ mixed CD to my hard drive in wma format. When I play the
music back in Windows media player 9 everything is OK and plays just like the
CD. When I play the tunes back on my iPAQ there are gaps (pauses) in the
music. These CDs are mixed i.e. one tune is 'beat-matched' with the next so
as to provide a continuous stream. As I said the playback on CD and via Media
Player 9 on my desktop are OK and works as intended but the tunes pause
between tracks both on Media player 9 or on my PDA Windows media player.
Anyone have an idea how to remove the gaps between tracks?

Thanks I have dowloaded your software. What do you suggest for MP3 encoding
as I said I have used wma up until now using Windows media player 9. I have
'magicstor' 2.2Gb plus compact flash harddrive card with 22 CD's worth of
tunes. Do I need to start again with the 'mixed' CDs (more than half) Ihave a
copy of 'my MP3 ver 4.0' from steinberg will that encode properly.
thanks for your help

Encoders are covered. I only use two: the .m4a encoder in
iTunes and the .mp3 encoder in LAME. Frankly, the last, oh,
1000 tunes I've encoded using iTunes, and .m4a. But as you
will find out in the faq, don't use iTunes for mp3, use it
only for .m4a. Only use LAME for mp3. And never, ever use
..wma, not unless someone has a gun pointed at a vital area.
Using iTunes it's really easy to do CDs (to .m4a). For LAME
mp3s, you could probably find a front-end to make that easy
for you. In my player, and using iTunes encodes, I usually
can get gapless perfectly, but not always. With LAME/mp3 I
can always get gapless. But I still would use iTunes first,
and then switch to LAME if I couldn't manage to get a track-
pair to be gapless in iTunes/iPlay (it's happened, but not
often). But you may want to stick with mp3. And you may
want to look for a front-end to LAME if you're the "can't
get much done without a gui" type.
And yes, start over. Or start on something else and redo
what you've already done whenever you get around to it.
Burn those CDs that are infected with .wma. Burn them now!

Thanks I'm getting a handle on this I think? As I said above I have a copy of
Steinberg's myMP3 ver 4.0 on my desktop when I check the following LAME site
(http://lame.sourceforge.net/links.html) I note that myMP3 is supported.
Whether I go to iTunes remains to be seen but I might as my son has an iPOD
(15Gb) and uses iTunes on his Windows 2k PC.
I do not have any wma CDs so no burning, in the literal sense, I will just
delete all the wma images from my Desktop PC and the microdrive on my iPaq.
thanks for all your help
Zander
btw my son has the same gap problem on his iPOD don't supose you have an
answer to that one?

iPOD always leaves gaps unless you use aiff (huge) files, I hear.
It's very annoying, and I don't know why anyone would settle for
it. I wouldn't/don't.
