Hard drive reconition

I just install a 500 gb hd and it did not assign a letter to the drive for use , what needs to be done I am working on xppro

Have you formatted the hard drive after installing it? If not, right-click on My Computer, go to Manage, then to Disk Management. From there, you should be able to see your new hard drive. It will show as unallocated, so you'll need to format it assign it a drive letter. Hope this helps.

And make a "Simple Volume," which makes it one partition. THEN you can format it.

Windows will not see any new hard drive UNTIL it's formatted.
