I need to change the hard drive in my old NEC computer. Any advice or suggestions will be highly appreciated. The NEC is not here at the moment so I don't have the model number at this time. Thanks.

You need to identify what type of computer it is. Then what type of interface it uses. IDE, SCSI, ESDI, SATA. Once you have that folks can give you some ideas.

Hi Flyin15sec,

The NEC hard drive is interchangeable with the following: Compaq Spares 1.2GB H/D (242990-001) - it has an IDE configuration - 4 large pins for power supply and 39 pin ribbon connection to the motherboard - the adjacent ribbon connector is identified as IDE-2.

Thanks for getting back so fast.

make sure the ide controller can handle the size hard disk you will be replacing it with...it may not be able to handle drives over 32gb or whatever the size is.
