ATI Radeon HD 3200 Black Screen

my problem is i play a game with older graphics that requires 1024x 768 and 16 bit color. it has worked fine in the past but all of the sudden when i attempt to play the game on these settings i get black screen and has to hit my power button to restart to get my display back. anyone have an idea of why this would start acting this way all of the sudden. i have even tried updating my display drivers did not change a thing
