I am currently in the process of buying speakers and since i plan to use headphones pretty much all the time is it worth getting good speakers AND good headphones? If i have cheap speakers will that affect the quality of the sound that the headphones put out or is the sound coming from the headphones entirely based on the headphones themselves?

lol, sound comes from mobo or sound card which is inside in your computer so it won't affect quality but in some cases it won't work both at same time but once at time.
