How to format a partition in windows xp

How to format the (c:) drive in windows xp the (d:) drive has all my backups and the problem is that I cant format the (c:) drive in windows or with software partly I don't know how.

  1. You insert the window installation disk in your cd/dvd drive and boot from it. Follow the instruction to format your c:\. After window installation complete, put the files you backup in D:\ back in and you are good to go. If your D:\ backup is a system image, you need to create a boot disk from the backup software you use and boot from that boot disk to restore window.
