I recently installed a new cpu in my laptop, and since it generates more heat, the fan needs to run 100% of the time to cool it. Im not worried about the cpu, as is stays well below its maximum temp. But, I really dont know how long fans are meant to last. Is it bad for my fan to be running all the time, or should it last another couple of years? Its only 2 years old. Do I need to reduce the load on the fan, or can it take the punishment?

Is it just a case fan or cpu fan?

Either way dont worry about it, they are designed to run. If it does break down in the future, you can pick another one up from newegg for cheap.

Ah i see. My advise would be to not worry about it too much, just keep an eye on the temps. If you notice the temps gradually start to increase then that could indicate that your fan is going bad, at which point it would be a good idea to replace it.

Realtemp has an option to set off an alarm if the temps go too high. The system would shut off if the temps become intolerable, so don't sweat it either way.
