If you are using Vista 32-bit, maximum memory is 4GB minus some overhead minus the memory contained on your video card. Most likely, that's 3.25GB.

All other memory is useless unless you run the 64-bit version.

If you're using Vista-64 . . . something else is wrong.

Mmm, i am using Vista 32-bit. 6GB ram is showing in the system memory but not in the task manager.

You have to get vista 64-bit to enable the use of whole 6 GB ram.

Hope all your programs and drivers are compatible . . . could be a mess, eh?

Some such downloads contain viruses and/or malware. You can order a legitimate 64 bit dvd from microsoft for a $10 handling fee.
