I built my rig a couple days ago and activated by win7 ultimate 64 retail after installation.

Now, my motherboard is acting all weird and it seems to be defective, so I'll be getting a replacement motherboard.

It's exactly the same motherboard i'm getting except maybe they have different serial number.

Is windows 7 going to detect this change and I need to reactivate the windows 7? I heard some people saying windows 7 activation attaches it to the motherboard. Is this true?

My MOBO is ASUS P6X58D Premium

Thanks.

Being the identical motherboard may or may not streamline the process.

Install, it may work off the hop, or it may not, and you would have to go through the process as Davcon described. I have had to get reactivation after upgrading or reinstallation, and if you explain yourself clearly and quickly, it is very easy to do. It hasn't taken me longer than 5 minutes to achieve over the phone.
