Wired Networking Problem

I have a three story home built mostly of concrete and steel. WiFi is not an optimal solution for me (have been trying different things for 2 years). So I have decided to move to wired connections. I previously used the cat5 wire throughout the house for my digital phone. I would plug the phone cable from the cable modem into the wall then I could plug my phone base station in anywhere around the house - worked great. So I have replaced the wall plugs with cat5E jacks making sure to use the B connections, double checking (many times) all of the colors are in the correct connections. I hook my cable modem up to the router and the router into the wall and bam, only 1 of the 9 plugs work. 5 of the plugs get a signal (says unidentified network) and 3 of the plugs don't connect at all. What am I missing? Your help is appreciated!

The way telephones are wired doesn't work for networking. You need a separate cable run from one central point to each jack.

I didn't say anything about not being CAT5, I said you need a separate wire from the wireless router to each wall jack. You can't daisy chain the CAT5 cables from one jack to the next.
