So currently both these video cards run the same amount of money on Newegg

I am running a 22" LG at 1680x1050. I have an older P4 with AGP video card so I am going to completly build a new system.

So I narrowed down the Video cards: HD 4850x2 1gb(2x512), and HD4870 1gb

At this resolution, which is the better choice? one is crossfire but has less memory for each GPU.

At that resolution, 4870 is enough to pull over 40fps (very playable) on almost all of present games. 4850x2 would perform 20-70% more subjective to game type. But as you are slow upgrader as seems from your p4 agp system, 4850x2 would suit you more than others. But if you're upgrading to crossfire motherboard, the best option is to get 4870 now and add another one later when their prices fall to like 130-ish, guess by this fall.

Gotta agree with this. 4850x2 is probably a bit of overkill unless you wait years between upgrades.

With the price drops on the 4870 and 4850 on the way that is probably your best bet.

HD4870 1gb ... would be sufficient at your resolution of the monitor.

HD4870 1GB would be good... (HD4850X2 is a good card, but with some driver problems or even cannot manage to provide performance in those application that have no CrossFire support...)
