I have an AMD Phenom 9550 processor on an M3A78-CM mobo. Will I get more performance if I buy a HD4830 instead of an 8800GT? Also how much power do I need for the HD 4830 or 8800GT/9800GT? I have a 450W power supply with 25A on +12V rail?

They perform pretty much the same according to benchmarks. Go to newegg and check the prices (should be around $100). Newegg also has the power requirements in their specs.

I know otherwise but then will I get abetter performance out of the 4830 because I am using an AMD chipset?

No. Using AMD CPU + Chipset + GPU doesn't net you extra performance.

Not this 2 cards again :( 88gt = 98gt = 4830

Thanks man I really anted to clear that out. So I am going to buy 8800GT. Should I upgrade my power supply? I checked XFX site and it says you need 500W or greater for non SLI. Will I be ok with my 450W? I 25A on +12V rail.

Well the 4830 and the 8800GT are very close in competition...But the 4830 beats the 8800GT when AA and AF is enabled ...And the 4830 draws less power compared to the 8800GT...And yes ur PSU will be sufficient for the 4830...

My option will be 4830...newer and better...

The thing is the store near me doesn't have the 4830, it only has the 8800GT. Also since I am in India buying from newegg will be very expensive.

where in india???If u in mumbai try tis site.. www.theitwares.com They have the shop there...sure u will get the 4830..check the prices thoug...

But wont the 8800GT outperform the 4830 when there is PhysX in the game?

Reply to abhijith

Well I doubt if the 8800Gt has PhysX support...
And take a look at tis article...sure u will decide which card to go...

Ok so my next question is after I buy either of these cards will I have enough power to OC it?

Reply to abhijith

Well what is the make of ur PSU ??? is the 25A on a single 12V rail or dual ?? Take care u have a good brand PSU because even if u get a low quality high wattage PSU is still no competition to Hgh Quality, low wattage PSU...

If u have any good brands like Corsar, Antec, cooler master, OCZ ,silverstone, PC &P, then u are good to go...

Reply to gkay09

It came with the CPU case and its single 12V rail. Also which company's card shroud I buy? I can get a PALIT 4850 for the same price as that of a SAPHIRE 4830. Should I buy the 4830 or 4850?

Reply to abhijith

If u can stretch your money grab the 4850 with both hands its way way better when ocd

Reply to cyber_jockey

Well get the 4850...

Reply to gkay09

Can I trust Palit? Any changes i power supply needed?

Reply to abhijith

Well they are official partners of ati and nvidia so i think u can...as for the PSU check which brand is it...and if its not of good quality then dont overclock ur components...if u dont overclock then the PSU is suffice...

I don't have a 6 pin power connector can I use the molex to 6pin adapter instead? Any cons of using the adapter?

Reply to abhijith

Well I wont advice much on tat cos I have not tried it myself...but try searching in the net about this....mayb u mite find the solution...

Reply to gkay09

I dont think here is any problem but not sure?

It lets you use AMD overdrive and fusion.

@OP just wait a week and get a 4850 on the cheap.

Yeah, prizes are dropping down, and new GTS250 based on the g92 rebranded... The 8800gt is a g92 also, so, it has PhysX support...

I'ld go to a 4850 - 4870, only cons PSU... going for the 4870 can cause u problems, and needs two extra power 12v rails...

I wont go above the 4850 and also do any of you guys know about any cons of using a 6 pin to molex adapter?

Reply to abhijith

Will the 4850 run hot like ~85 degrees on Load????

Reply to abhijith

HI GUYS,

WELL I HAVE GOT A 4830, I WAS ALSO DECIDING IT WITHIN 8800GT OR 4830 OR 9800GT,

BUT GUESS WHAT,

4830 IS SUPERIOR IN PERFORMANCE AGAINST 88/98GT AS U CAN FIND OUT IN GURU3D.

4830 ALSO SUPPORTS DIRECT X 10.1 THAT ENHANCES FRAMERATE IN PLAYING GAMES WHICH SUPPORT 10 SUCH AS IN HAWX.(WHICH 10.1 NVIDIA DOESNT SUPPORT)
AND DONT BE MISTAKEN THERE ISSS A DIFERENCE BETWEEN DIRECT X 10.1 AND 10.
DX10.1 SUPPORTS SHADER MODEL 4.1

IT IT HAS MORE STREAM PERFORMANCE AND BETTER ON THE BENCH MARK AGAINST 9800GT IN MOST OF GAMES.

WELL I WOULD RECOMMEND TO GO FOR 4830.

IM TIRED.
HERES THE LIKNKK TO FIND HOW 4830 BEATS 9800GT.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/rade [...] echnology/

AND FOR DIFFERENCE B/W DX 10.1 AND 10, U CAN LOOK FOR VDO RELEASED BY I THINKK AMD THEMSELVES, WELL IM NOT SURE ABOUT IT.

SOME CASE I MIGHT BE WRONG SO SORRY IN ADVANCE.

AND YEAH 4830 REQUIRES 26A ON 12V RAILS

GOOD LUCK :hello:
