Greetings Gentlefolk,

I have just wasted a day purchasing a Gigabyte GeForce 9600 GT and attempting to install it... without success.

It seems that the brain-dead, whacked out monkey who put my computer together in the first place has managed to include a lovely Asus M2N-MX SE with a PCI EX 16 slot but neglected to include a 6 pin power cable in the package.

Now, my power supply seems fine, it's an ATX - 550W, the only thing that's missing is the cable. Now what I need to know is, am I going to have to dash out and spend more hard-earned on a new PSU, or is there some way of adding the cable or adapting one that's already in there?

As you can probably tell I know next to nothing about the guts of a computer, hence the whole someone else putting it together thing. Any assistance will be much appreciated.

Cheers.

The 9600GT should have one of these 2 x 4 pin molex to 6 pin PCIE as an included accessory. The MB monkey does not provide this adapter, the video card chimp does.

The 6 pin connector is supposed to come with your power supply. You can buy a 6 pin connector and also you can use the molex to 6 pin adapter that came with the graphics card.

It appears, dear friends, that my video card has only come packed with HDMI converters and SLI cables. There was nothing included that allows such molex to 6 pin conversion.

I fear I am restricted to purchasing a new PSU. But thank you for your assistance. I feel you have helped me to understand that I have been somehow ripped off...

Oh well, back to the shops tomorrow, I guess.

Probably a good idea anyway, a 550 watt psu with no pcie connector can't be all that good.
