i've got me self an i7, and i like the energysaver, but, i'm wonder how much performance i'm loosing if i'm running a game, as far as i see it, there has to be a performance loss, else the lower power would be default.
but i can't find anything about that, so hoping someone has some experience or numbers they can throw at me.
Actually Core i7 is not exactly an energy saver. At load, Core i7 can consume a lot more than 100W, which is already more than most of the Intel quad cores out there.
Techreport can demonstrate:
However, the performance you get is also unparalleled.
------------------------------Intel will not take the top spot, or probably the top 3 spot back for the forseeable future. Not even with 32nm and more cores will intel be able to beat Jaguar. - JennyH the AMDiot, Nov 2009

The i7 is not really ment to SAVE power, because it is a POWER HOUSE. haha. Really the best you can do is set the windows power saver mode to conserver power, and do not OC your chip so that Speedstep downclocks it when the CPU is not in use.
How to conserve power with an i7:
Step1: shut it down when you are not using it.
Step2: repeat step 1 the next time PC is not in use.
