you need to burn the iso image to a cd, cant remember what program I used tho sorry
after that its set your boot device to cd, then boot the system with one stick of ram in, it runs automatically, give each stick a good hour at least

aah, sounds like you need to extract the file, sorry, thought you had done that ok,
erm, download and install winzip or similar, that should let you unzip and extract the contents, remember the version of memtest you need varies from 32bit to 64bit, make sure you have correct one :)

I don't remember if XP has the ability to open Zip files built in. Did you download the memtest (ZIP) or (GZ) version? Windows may be able to open the zip. If not, then the first download of 7-zip ( http://www.7-zip.org/ ) should let you open either of those fine.

Unzip the file with winzip, winrar, 7-zip or some other program you choose, and extract the image to a place you'll remember (e.g. desktop). Then use nero or roxio to burn the image file to a CD. Then load the CD, shut-sdown and retsart, boot to your CD/DVD drive and memtest86+ will automatically start.
