Hello
Me AGAIN.
My dvd drive has a problem, again. I had problems with reading any type of disc. (cd dvd cdrw dvdrw +)It did not open either.
Me As "smart" as I thought I was, went into the registry and deleted the drive.
It reinstalled it yes, as unknown device. Now I really have no idea.
I have the BENQ DVDRW 1640 driver and it installed it as unknown device. There is no cd/dvd rom drive in device manager.
Is there any one that can help me,? I really don't know what to do.

First I opened registry.
Then The path was as follows
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Everything in there

yes, the only sure way to fix missing registry keys is a restore point or repair install.

for the original problem though, when you reinstalled windows, did you install any roxio dvd burning software? there are registry keys that roxio sometimes creates that do need to be deleted as they cause dvd drives not to work, but they are in a different area of the registry. post back when you've reinstalled and i can help you with that if your drive still isn't working.

No, I didn't even get too that yet. Mostly I use nero.
But my dvd drive is BENQ DVD RW 1640
My graphics card is Intel 82865g After installing a update on my graphics acceleration, my drive started to give problems.
I read somewhere the two doesn't work too well together.
But I will reinstall it and let you know what happened.

usually problems with the symptoms you were describing have to do with the upper/lower filters in the registry rather than the keys for the drive itself. ultimately it may be worth dropping 20-30 dollars on a new dvd drive (if the filters fix doesn't work)
