Asus Maximus Extreme Watercooling Only?

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Motherboards Asus Maximus Extreme Watercooling Only?

I noticed that the cooler on the Asus Maximus Extreme X38 motherboard (for LGA775) has a waterblock on the chipset. But does the motherboard NEED water cooling to operate?

no, it will be fine up to about 400MHz FSB speeds. I started to get failures at anything over 400MHz. I ran my Maximus Extreme at 400MHz on air for about 1 year. I did switch over about 9 months ago to watercooling for my NB, SB chipsets along with my CPU. The motherboard is much more stable and BSOD issues have disappeard since.

Thanks for the help!
Also, as a final question, what's the difference between the X38 chipset and the X48?

Forgive me if im wrong, and you might want to double check. But to my knowledge, the only difference was the manufacturing process. obviously allowing for higher clocks, lowers temps, etc.
