Okay, we know that i5 will be coming out soon.

According to this article, cheapest i5 processor will be sold at around 200$, which is very similar to the current price of i7-920. This leaves me with a question; do you think that the price i7-920 will increase once the i5 products are out, to encourage people to buy the i5 instead of i7-920?

i5 will be mainstream i7 will still be enthusiast so to differentiate the prices of the i7 are likely to go up to reflect this

The i5 is still cheaper, so I doubt the i7 will need a change in price. IIRC, the actual tray cost of the 920 is $284 with a SRP of $349. Many retailers sell below cost in expectations of you also buying a motherboard, RAM, etc. at the same time you buy the CPU.

The i7 prices will not change, their just releasing the i5 to satisfy the ones who don't want the high end stuff.

This way it makes the i5 more appealing to those who want to build on the cheap.

and because they've disabled a major feature on their bottom end model and the next one up is more expensive than i7, they'll get more customers for the i7 depending on mobo costs.

The i5 mobos should be a LOT cheaper (probably with some <$100) than the x58 boards though. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if prices dropped fairly soon after release.
