I'm building my computer, will be used for playing games while surfing the Internet. Shall I go with the x4 940, or e8400. Thanks!

What games do you play, an are you planning to use CPU demanding tasks like encoding HD videos stuff like that?

The X4 940 would be better in almost every situation, if a little more expensive. It's a quad-core at the same speed, and very close to the same speed per clock per core. Thus, in optimum situations, it's nearly twice as powerful.

X4, no problem.

Anyone remember the days when the e8400 would have all the recommendations? Well done AMD!

^ Oh yeah...those were the dark days of AMD when they launched the Phenom I...

Think about the PhenomII 720 black edition, for gaming you have nearly the same performance as with the 940 but it costs a lot less

+1 for the AMD PII.

Unless you can go for an i7, that would be the only thing better. Otherwise the AMD PII's is your best value and choice.
