It better, the lowered frames pissed me off. From what I've seen, 9.3 should bring the frames back atleast to what they were before, as for more, we'll have to see.
ATI needs to support they're multiGPUs alot more, they've ignored the 4870 X2 quad for 6-8 months, where it performs like the 295 GTX quad which is still in immature drivers.

Its been obvious for a while that the newer drivers were not relevant to the older architecture, its better late than never that they stopped the pretence that they were.
What we really need now are a set of definitive drivers for the different chips. Three or so different drivers for each chip should do it, just in case there are conflicts etc, its good to have alternatives to try.

After 3 years (the 19xx series) , if they dont have all the fixes available by now its too late. What I am wondering is, how will this effect those cards on newer games? Ones they can handle?

Well from what I've learned from previous situations, once the card is out....its out. If it doesn't work or if it has problems tough luck its time to upgrade

Well I think thats good enough. I mean these cards are pushing what like 4 years right? They had their run. Thought we shouldn't expect performance gains (you never know) we can still expect to see them being fully compatible with the games that can be played

Good now I can see a increase in performance with my lan rig thats using a x1900XT. Not that call of duty 2,4,5 is demanding just like to see more frames without raising the clocks.
Well the way i see it the main focus should be improving/developing the drivers for the newer architecture cards anyway. And as i said before at least its official now and we can stop telling people to needlessly update drivers to the newest ones if they are on older hardware.
On the subject of the 19xx cards. ATI never did get the best out of them.
If you know what you are doing you can get some brilliant increases out of those cards using ATI Tray Tools.
Im running a 3850 in my main rig but image wise my older rig with the 1950 pro just wipes the floor with it.
Well...the X1900XT/XTX is still a decent card. I could get 90FPS average in Lotro with max settings (medium shadows) on a E6300 @ 2.3ghz.
But obviously I would not recommend anybody buy one even if they could.
For me, it depends on the price. I see deals on my local CL every now and then for good cards/hardware. If I saw an x1950XT for $40 or so, I might be tempted. Its not much slower then the 8800GS, and as already mentioned not really a bad card. Someone earlier was selling a 7800GS (AGP) for $40, I nearly bought it for an old S754 rig I retired. Someone else is selling a 9800pro (AGP) for $20. Good cards, and in my opinion, good prices as well.

I doubt that any real advances have been made with old cards driver wise for ages so yeah it's better to just let them die and concentrate on improving cards that are in general use.
