Is there any risk to damaging the hardware in my case if I tried to unlock the fourth core? I've heard of possible BSOD, etc...but not of my hardware becoming damaged...before I tinker with it, I need to know. I am running stock speed on a Phenom II 720 and use a Dark Knight CPU cooler...

Nope, the worst you'll do is corrupt your hard drive when it crashes...

Never mind then, lol...

I might try it when my PC slows down...

:D
I have the same motherboard + Phenom II X2 with 2 unlocked cores. I have it running at 3.45GHz... I have been using it pretty intensely with Adobe products, video editing, and gaming but didn't see a crash once.

There's a REALLY low chance of hard drive crashing due to BSOD from CPU overclocking... Very rare, if it happens at all.

You have nothing to worry about.... worst case scenario will be that you fail to unlock and get a BSOD... or your system becomes unstable no matter what you do....if that happens all you have to do is go into bios and lock it back up as a tri-core.....
