I need to build the best video editing computer for around $1000. I want a lot of RAM preferably ddr2 and a good a good CPU. I don't know what motherboard to get, and what else I need. I don't want anything fancy, just a good video editor that will be able to run and render smoothly and fast.

computersss build is pretty good, but doesn't include an OS. Some of the parts are also overkill. You could save some money without sacrificing any video editing speed by swapping out the GPU and PSU for these:

HIS Hightech H467QT512P Radeon HD 4670 IceQ Turbo 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair-450w-vx-series-12v-atx-80-plus-certified-power-supply-corsair/q/loc/101/205466485.html $72.24 - $10 MIR

or

Corsair VX550W ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply
http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair-550w-vx-series-12v-atx-80-plus-certified-power-supply-corsair/q/loc/101/205852646.html $85.23 - $20 MIR

Take some of the money saved from the above changes and get a 64-bit OS so you can use all your RAM.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116488 $99.99

I really like the GA-EP45-UD3R, but if you still need to shave off a few dollars you could get this instead:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128372&Tpk=ga-ep45-ud3l $98.99
