So overclocking my 2,5 year old computer :>

So I was thinking of overclocking my system (safely ;p) Could anyone here help me a bit? I've got no idea what I'm doing here since I've never overclocked before. Here's my system:

CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8400. (Socket 775).
CPU Cooler: OCZ Vanquisher.
RAM: 4GB DDR2 MHz Reaper Heat Pipe CL4.
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD5770.
Mother board: GA-X38-DS4 (Socket 775).

Thanks in advance!

  1. Start In the bios settings. your processor is good, one of the best in c2d, well the best imo.

Try cleaning your CPU, putting new thermal grease, and of you got a good cooling setup then go ahead. even at stock setup you can hit imo 3.4, 3.5
  2. So maybe I shouldn't be overclocking my CPU? What about my Memory?
  3. Why oc memory when you don't wanna oc processor? If you are so scared to oc your processor, then be more scared before messing with memory.
  4. Well I actually want to OC my processor, I've so far overclocked it to 3.6GHz
  5. MAN! what do you want more? set fire to it :p. how can 3.6 not make your games work?

lol if you overclocked it first, why lie here? you could have just said "are there any risks." if its working fine, keep the oc.
  6. I didn't overclock it when I posted, I put it into a stresstest for 9:42:51 and I'm not sure what I can see from the picture if everything is fine or not:
  7. Also, I had no bluescreens whatsoever for almost 10 hours, I guess it's working fine? :]
