Why is my Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 now showing up as just a USB Ma

I have a Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 portable hard drive that used to, when plugged in, show up as another drive on my computer but, last night, it suddenly stopped showing up in My Computer and in the device manager it shows up just as a USB Mass Storage Device. This happened sometime between the time i logged off of my user account and when i logged back on a half an hour later. I cannot access any files on the drive either. Does anyone know what might cause this?? Thanks in advance for any help.

Does it show up in Disk Management (type diskmgmt.msc in the command line)? You might need to assign a new drive letter to the drive.
