Hello there, I'm SLing a 9800GTX and 9800GTX+ together.

I have 3 PCI-e slots in my 780i - which card should I install into the first slot?
I've heard some say to install the GTX and others say to install the GTX+ in the first slot.

Where will the other card go? 2nd or 3rd slot?
Also which slot is exactly #2 and #3 because I don't think they go in order from left to right.

Slot 1.......Slot 3?......Slot 2?

I would put the fastest one #1 although note; in theory it doesnt affect anything which one you put where. Put the warmest one closest to the airflow in your case. Next; place them so that there is an empty pcie slot inbetween them.

Anotherthing to watchout for is that I am not 100% certain that these can even be slied together. You may need to bios flash them first. Did you do homework on this prior to buying?

^ Yes, the GTX and GTX+ are 100% compatible in SLi.

Although when you say put the warmer one next to the airflow, that would be my GTX in slot 1. That would mean my non-SLi games would run a bit slower. Would the GTX in slot #3 be disabled when it's not in use, so it gives off less heat?

So it's a tradeoff between heat and better performance in non-SLi games.
Which should I do?

GTX+ in the SLOT 1. just have a look at the GPU temp, you can use EVGA precision. EX to use and helpfull software.

thxs. I was looking at another post and someone said the GTX goes in slot1 so the GTX+ downclocks to it?

Reply to Bluescreendeath

ya the quickest card always gets downclocked, when in slot 1 or 3 doesnt matter.

kk thxs. although I've heart that the GTX+ is sometimes read as a 8800GT

Is this a problem limited to the GTX+ in slot 1, or is it just for any situation with GTX and GTX+ ?

all you need to do to avoid that is to put your sli connector on the second sli bridge from the dvi ports and it will work fine and if you get a black screen with a white flashing bar for more then a minute download the drivers from the manufacture thats what i had to do to fix mine since i had a xfx and a evga in my setup. well good luck
