No idea what's going on. I've DriverCleaned everything out and reinstalled the latest drivers, checked the physical status of the card, everything. The fan runs nonstop at what seems to be a high setting, but the control center says it's not moving at all.

This started happening after a few blue screens I got after some moderate gaming sessions

Well the temps do not seem to be the issue. As those temps are great. How old is the card? Also what PSU are you using?

Check if its fan is working properly..

Like I said, the fan is running nonstop. I don't know what else to check.

The card is less than two weeks old. I can return it if needs be.

Could it be the PSU?

i had my VisionTek card saying well over 100% usage, and got BSOD's after I installed the 8.12 drivers. In your case, try rolling back to an older driver. I also think that it is more of a Catalyst Control Center problem more than a driver problem.

BTW: not really a great power supply... people will probably recommend a better one.

------------------------------ I couldn't overclock my 6000+ so I undervolted it. Stable at 3.0 GHz and 1.05V

Try different drivers. 9.1 and 9.2 kept crashing me to windows everytime I played Everquest2, so I reverted back to 8.12 and everything is fine again.

9.2 must be stable than 8.12.....I think so...

Maybe it's more stable in general, but it kept making Everquest2 in particular crash for me. That's pretty much the only game I play nowadays so it was worth reverting...

@machinestarter

do you have rivatuner installed? uninstall it if you do.

1. if thats a normal 4850, the lowest clock on the slider should be 625 not 640 (even if its a factory OC'd card, on my experience, i had 2 4850's from different AIB's).
2. if its running beyond 100% and the temps stays @ 37c, something is wrong internally with the card. might be the bios or something.
3. you didnt by any chance did anything with the cards bios did you?
4. i have no idea where your PSU came from. APEVIA is not a very known brand (at least to me). try a corsair or antec. for starters, a corsair vx450 will do you good.

But my PSU doesn't seem to be the problem. I didn't mess with my card's BIOS, but what would I have to do to fix it?

I haven't had any more problems, just that reading of 454, which stays consistent.

I have the exact same card and those are the clock speeds I show, 640/993. The specs even read that way at Newegg although I think they have a typo on the memory clock. They state 1968 while 993 DDR x 2 = 1986.

As for the fan speed, does gpu-z show the same fan speed? Perhaps it's just a bad sensor.

I'll run gpu-z when I get back from class. I haven't had any crashes or anything since moving it out of its somewhat enclosed spot, so I'm assuming it's the sensor.

Is that worth returning it over? I'm considering it. I don't want it to start to freak out for real and not be able to tell.

I recently purchased a msi 4850 same card as yours. Problem started after installation of latest ccc. Caused a whacked bsod flicker then restart. then no post. did a cmos clear and a psu unplug and it booted to show the fan speed at 0% and the activity at 0% but showing between 37-50c on temps (37 idle 50 full load) since completely removed cc and drivers and reinstalled. no luck. Next im going to remove ccc and remove drivers again try the msi disk again. if that doesn't work ill try getting the old 8.XX ccc and drivers see what it does. After the whacked bsod it locked up 2 or 3 times and would give me no posts randomly for about 2-3 hours of a low load environment ( installing software ect.) the next day it seemed to be running kinda stable but still at 0% activity & fan speed. let you know when I finish all of the testing.
