Upgrading questions....

ok so i have a compaq sr1650nx and i'm finally throwing in a video card. the card i want is the ASUS EAH4870 DK TOP. it requires at least a 500w ps with 2 x 6pin. my mobo is A8AE-LE and compaq chat isn't great i was told that i can only use up to a 450w ps but i don't think that is the case. is it? and what is the main connector i need? 20 pin? 24 pin? 20+4? somebody plz point the way to a power supply that would work with my mobo and the gpu i want plz plz plz =) thanks

I don't know what their telling you at the Dell forum but you can always upgrade your PSU unless it has weird dimensions like the ones HP installs in some of their computer. Just compare the dimensions on the spec sheets to the one you have.

Agreed...upgrading the PSU shouldn't be a problem.

What kind of processor do you currently have? You may bottleneck that card if you don't have a decent system.

I just took a look at the photos and specs for your pc. It's an old model from 2005. It's got a micro-atx motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and 250GB hard drive. The psu appears to be a standard ATX unit. You should not have any problems replacing the stock psu with a high quality psu.

The Antec Earthwatts EA500 would be a good choice. It can handle any single video card made. Another high quality psu is the Corsair VX 550.
