Taskbar - lost icons

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.configuration_manage (More info?)

I have 'lost' a number of the standard icons in the
system tray of the task bar - eg volume, battery level,
etc. Also the hide icons when inactive feature seems to
have disappeared.

Can anyone help me with guidance as to what controls
loading these icons etc?

Look in the register at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

There you probably found the entry: WindowsSA
it is connected to this file:
C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\omniscient.exe

delete the entry
and I was lost of the problem.
