I just purchased a VGA replacement cable to connect my Gateway laptop to my 37" HDTV (Toshiba)...I connected it properly and it works until I try to play my Windows Media Player or some other DVD program. Any suggestions? Did I buy the wrong cable?

What monitor setting are you using? There are three for laptops, display on both screens, display on laptop only and display on external screen only. For video I've found you need to display on the external monitor only (I'm assuming your using dual display). Try that out...
