Which would you go with?

8800 GT 512
9800 GTX 512
9600 GT 1GB

They are all about the same price range: < $150

This rank list seems to indicate they are all about equal although the 9600 is lowest of the three: http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 118-7.html

??? *shrug* ???

Go for the 9800GTX, the extra memory on the 9600 is wasted and the 8800 is a little slower.

Prices for the ATI 4870 dropped recently, you may want to consider picking it up.

Hands down, it would beat the 3 choices you posted.

Good luck!

Oh wow, I did not realize the 4870 was so cheap now. Is HIS a good brand or does it not really matter?

Dang, Sapphire has a 1GB version for $169: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=AT-4850GB&c=pw

Rest of my system is ASUS P5Q-EM and Intel QX6850 3.0GHz. I have 3GB RAM running asymmetric mode which my motherboard apparently supports, and Windows XP SP2 also supports 3GB.

I play only ETQW right now. May try COD5 at some point in the future though.

I need a new PSU, I know this. Was looking at the Corsair 550vx which has a 12v rail rated for 40amps..

Although now that I see the 4870, it looks like it needs 75w per 12v rail, which is like 6.7amps, so I think my current PSU should suffice as it has multiple 12v railss each with their own 18amp circuit. It is a 450w Rosewill PSU. Should I still go and get the Corsair?

His aren't bad, I had an x1950 pro from them and was generally happy with it. Some heating issues occurred but I think that was down to the reference cooler than the company's fault.

you have a QX6850 with a 450W rosewill ? ... ??? i just dont undersant what an originaly 1000$ CPU do with a peice of junk PSU...

YES buy a corsair 520, its a very good PSU. be SURE that your MEM run dual chanel, its really going to improve your performance if its not running dual.

But i like your MOBO. P5Q are nice. ever planing on OCing the QX ???? you can get it to 4.0ghz EZ with NICE aircooling or decent WC kit.

Yes, but I'm scared to toy with it and overclock it. Will probably break it. It was $1000 yes, but $400 after employee discount (friend's wife got it for me when she worked at Intel).

I had no idea at the time Rosewill was a piece of junk. It looked really nice and came in a really nice box. *shrug*

Just take a look at the Toms-forum. youll have nice OC guide.

Your P5Q is really a good OCing board. with just a 35$ xigmatek rifle you can take the QX to 3.4-3.6 EZ and low chance to damage it. This lead in a 10-15% OC ... 10-15% fps increase ...
